Surgical Areas
The areas that make up the Surgical Services department at Sterling include the pre-op holding unit, the operating rooms, the post-anesthesia care unit and the sterile processing unit. Surgeons, anesthesia care providers and other specially-trained professionals work within these areas to provide the best surgical experience possible.
Pre-op Holding
Pre-op is the area in which patients are prepared for surgery. Vital signs and an assessment are taken and the surgeon’s orders are followed for testing, lab work, and the starting of an intravenous line. Patients meet with their anesthesia care provider before anesthesia is delivered. Post op blocks are placed in pre-op and teaching is provided by all care givers.
Operating Rooms
Sterling has five state-of-the-art surgical suites in which surgeons perform a wide range of inpatient and outpatient procedures. Qualified RN's and certified scrub technicians assist the surgeon.
Post Anesthesia Care Unit
Patients emerge from anesthesia and begin their recover in this area. Nursing personnel work with physicians and other health care providers to provide pain control, assess vital signs and safely transfer patients back to their inpatient unit, or discharge to home. Patient teaching and discharge instructions are a vital aspect of care in this area.
Sterile Processing Department
The sterile processing department works to ensure that all surgical instruments, equipment and supplies are readily available and follow all quality standards.
