Breast Tomosynthesis
Washakie Medical Center is the first hospital in Wyoming to acquire breast tomosynthesis, a breakthrough technology that allows us to produce three-dimensional mammogram images.

A 3D mammogram is a collection of breast images taken from different angles. This allows the physician to review a millimeter’s worth of tissue at a time, increasing the likelihood of spotting abnormalities as quickly as possible.

With this innovation, patients benefit from less radiation exposure, shorter exam times and enhanced clarity resulting in up to 28 percent more breast cancer being detected.

Our attention to patient comfort is reflected in Washakie’s use of the MammoPad® breast cushion which dramatically decreases the pain many women experience when they get a mammogram. MammoPad is placed on the compression plates of the mammography device and provides a softer, warmer experience. By combining the MammoPad with our 3D mammograms, we now offer a “high-tech, soft-touch” mammography experience for women.
