Letter from the Director

Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center-PHOENIX VAMC Cardiology Fellowship

Dear Doctor:
Thank you for your interest in the Banner Good Samaritan-Phoenix VAMC Cardiology Fellowship Program. Banner Good Samaritan is the largest teaching hospital in the Southwest, and functions as both a community hospital for the city of Phoenix and a referral medical center for most of northern Arizona.

Our program is combined with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.  Rotations occur at both hospitals during each year of the program.  The combination of training at both private and VA tertiary care hospitals provides a well balanced educational program with excellent training and exposure to a wide variety of clinical problems.

The hospitals offer a full spectrum of residency programs in other medical disciplines as well as four other Fellowship Programs. The Cardiology Fellowship is designed to provide 36 months of training.  During this time specific rotations occur through the CCU, clinical rotation, echocardiography, research, ECG and treadmill, nuclear cardiology, the cardiac catheterization laboratory, including interventional techniques.  Clinical rounds as well as cardiology conferences occur daily, directed by full and part-time faculty. The cardiology clinic provides an opportunity to follow a group of patients through the entire period of training, and thus gain experiences in the long-term management of a variety of cardiac problems.

For those applying, a visit to Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center and the Phoenix VAMC is required.  The fellowship participates in the Medical Specialties Matching Program.  All candidates will be selected from the match.

Sincerely,
