Banner Orthopaedic Residency

Banner Good Samaritan Hospital Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center  

Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center was accredited to educate residents in Orthopaedic Surgery in July 2007. The program is five years in duration. Three categorical PGY-1 residents will be matched for July 2010 through the NRMP with applications being accepted through ERAS.

Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center is the sponsoring institution where the core curriculum, the PGY-1 rotations, the General/Community Orthopaedic Service and research are based. Participating institutions for sub-specialty clinical rotations include Phoenix Children's Hospital, Mayo Clinic Hospital, Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn and Shea, St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical  Center, and Carl T Hayden VA Medical Center. Research sites include Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center,  The Center for Interventional Biomaterials, Harrington Dept. of Bioengineering and the Department of Biomedical Informatics, School of Computing and Informatics at  Arizobna State University. 

The pursuit of scholarly activities is an integral part of the program. Advanced training occurs in all orthopedic subspecialties, including Musculoskeletal Trauma, Adult Reconstruction, Pediatric Orthopaedics, Sports Orthopaedics, Hand and Upper Extremity, Foot and Ankle, Musculoskeletal Oncology, Spine, and Orthopaedic Research.

The Orthopedic Residency is the sixth residency program in the highly successful Graduate Medical Education Department of Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center. Educational excellence is a well established tradition. There are currently more than 240 residents in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Orthopaedics and Psychiatry. GME also includes nine excellent fellowship programs that enroll about 46 fellows.

Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center is a full-service quaternary care hospital located in downtown Phoenix with 659 inpatient beds and extensive outpatient activities.
