Lectures, Seminars, Conferences and Supervision
Regularly scheduled, formal didactic lectures and seminars with assigned readings and led by our experienced faculty are considered fundamental to the training experience. These typically correlate with pertinent clinical assignments.
A "core curriculum" of biobehavioral sciences is provided in a progressive fashion through all years of training and includes in-depth study of neurosciences, mental health and psychopathology as well as theoretical and practical aspects of various psychotherapies and contemporary pharmacologic and somatic interventions. The core curriculum is expanded by several other educational experiences including interdisciplinary and clinical case conferences, grand rounds, journal club meetings and elective seminars.
Supervision remains a key component of our Psychiatry Residency Program and includes several hours of individual and group experiences each week. Supervisors include the full-time adult and child faculty at Good Samaritan and affiliated clinical sites and experienced psychiatrists and other mental health professionals from the community.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the excellent teaching and scheduled conferences throughout the Medical Center, the University of Arizona's COM-Phoenix Campus and the community and to interact actively with educational programs in related fields such as neurology, internal medicine, pediatrics and psychology.
