The North Colorado Family Medicine (NCFM) Residency Training Program opened in July 1974. This fully accredited residency program replaced a rotating internship that trained approximately six physicians per year for 15 years.
As of June 2006, we have graduated 180 board-eligible family physicians. All of our graduates have been board-certified, and most have included obstetrics in their practices.
Approximately 67 percent of our graduates have located in rural settings, and others practice in a wide variety of areas, including private practices, international sites, community health centers, academics, and other settings.
The program size has changed over the years. In 1986, it increased from four to six residents. As the vision of the residency has continued to respond to community needs we increased to nine residents in 2006, but anticipate that we will accept seven for the 2008-2009 academic year. With the exception of a two-resident-per-year Podiatry Program, North Colorado Family Medicine is the only graduate medical program conducted at North Colorado Medical Center (NCMC), our sponsoring institution.
