Banner Good Samaritan Internal Medicine Residency

Internal Medicine Residency Program

Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center and Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center

Our program is based at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, a quaternary referral center for Arizona and adjoining states and is fully integrated with the Carl T. Hayden Veterans Affairs Medical Center. This combination allows residents to care for patients with diverse backgrounds and pathology under the guidance of supportive faculty and subspecialists strongly committed to teaching and patient care.

Both hospitals are major teaching affiliates of the University of Arizona College of Medicine with students performing their required and elective clinical clerkships. Our program attracts applicants from universities nationwide because it is highly regarded by those seeking excellent clinical training in a collegial atmosphere.

Additionally, our fellowships in Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, Interventional Cardiology, Medical Toxicology and Pulmonary/Critical Care contribute to the culture of scholarship and academics. Together, the complimentary clinical sites, diverse patients, close affiliation with the University of Arizona, fellowships and large core faculty create an academic environment analogous to a university program.

Over the years many of our graduates have chosen general Internal Medicine as their career. Others have pursued subspecialty fellowship training in a Banner Health program or other prestigious fellowship program. Many of our graduates enjoy the southwestern lifestyle and take advantage of the ample practice opportunities at the local or regional level (see more under "Our Graduates").

Although challenging, a residency and career in Internal Medicine should be rewarding and joyful. We believe that our program offers an environment conducive to this philosophy. Our residents and faculty enjoy learning and practicing Internal Medicine and are committed to providing excellent patient care. If you are motivated to push yourself to learn from every experience and are commited to being a productive member of the team, we encourage you to come visit our program. You will find that training in Internal Medicine at Banner Good Samaritan and Carl T. Hayden VA is a pleasant and educationally rewarding experience.
