OurApproach to the Care and Study of Alzheimer’s Disease
Blending Care and Study to Treat and End Alzheimer's
CARE: Medical practitioners and neuropsychology experts provide sophisticated evaluations and treatment in our Memory Disorders Clinic. This is offered in concert with our Family and Community Services program, staffed by nurses and social workers who are experts in helping patients and families navigate the illness.
STUDY: We conduct treatment research with people afflicted with Alzheimer’s and similar conditions, brain imaging research in people with and without dementia, as well as genetics research in people with and without the disease. In this era, “best study” requires incorporation of genetic, laboratory, and brain imaging techniques into treatment and prevention studies.
Best care requires outstanding faculty and staff who are recruited from coast to coast. It requires time with the patients and families, more than standard medical practice models permit. It requires the talent to educate patients and families about the illness, what lies ahead, how to plan, how to adapt, and how to maintain joy and independence in the face of this chronic illness. We believe that best care also affords people access to best study, including research involving promising new treatments for all aspects of the illness.
