Executive Director, Banner Alzheimer’s Institute

Audio: “I’m proud to serve as Director of the Arizona Alzheimer’s Consortium, a collaboration involving seven institutions and 150 researchers in Arizona, that is the leading statewide model of collaboration in Alzheimer’s Disease Research and commonly sited as a model of multi-institutional, multi-disciplinary collaboration and bio-medical research. Since the establishment of our research program a little more than ten years ago, our researchers have published 2,500 research papers, they’ve generated about 500 research grants, they’ve made critical contributions to understanding some of the molecular mechanisms and risk factors that contribute to Alzheimer’s Disease, have suggested promising new treatment strategies. We have been able to detect and track some of the earliest brain changes associated with the risk of Alzheimer’s Disease and we have developed some important new research methods along the way.

So our collaboration capitalizes on complimentary resources and brain imaging, the mathematical and computational analysis of brain images, genomics, the basic cognitive and behavioral neurosciences, experimental therapeutics programs and neuropathology research to address each of our questions in a more fundamental way.”
