How do I know if I have a sleep disorder?Ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Are you always tired?
  2. Are you unable to go to sleep and stay asleep during the night?
  3. Have you been told that you snore constantly and occasionally stop breathing when you sleep?
  4. Do you fall asleep at times when you should normally be able to stay awake and alert?

If any of these symptoms sound familiar, you may be one of the millions of individuals who suffer from a sleep-related disorder. For example, loud snoring may be a sign of sleep apnea, a potentially serious disorder

In addition to poor sleep, sleep-related disorders can cause other problems. Breathing disorders during sleep (such as sleep apnea) and narcolepsy can both cause daytime sleepiness and decreased alertness which can be contributing causes of motor vehicle accidents, poor performance and industrial mishaps.

The causes of sleep disorders are as varied as the diseases themselves. Sleeping pills, tea or warm milk aren't always the answers. If symptoms persist, you should discuss the problem with your doctor.
