Banner Health is dedicated to providing the most advanced care to our neuro patients, as well as fostering clinical and medical advancements in neurosciences. Sponsorship and participation in research programs at the local, regional and national levels ensures Banner patients have access to and may participate in up-to-date trials for neurological treatment. The Banner Health Research Institute oversees all research activities performed at our hospitals, including those in neurobiology/neuroengineering and neurology.
In a series of landmark PET (positron emission tomography) research studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Banner Health researchers reported the earliest brain changes in people at genetic risk for Alzheimer’s disease -- almost 50 years before the likely onset of memory and thinking problems. As a result, they developed a new way to identify new Alzheimer’s disease risk factors, and developed a new way to evaluate promising treatments to prevent Alzheimer’s disease in the shortest possible time.
