Fitness is often the key to better health and a better quality of life for many. Banner Health is dedicated to helping women live a healthier life, with a focus on fitness and good nutrition.
According to the National Institutes of Health, physical activity can aid in weight loss and increases cardiovascular fitness. Many types of diseases, particularly diabetes and hypertension, can be significantly improved through weight loss and management, and a fitness program tailored to your needs.
Nutritional Counseling
Our certified, registered dietitians are available at many Banner Health facilities to provide private, individualized counseling to women.
In addition to wellness nutrition, our dietitians provide nutritional counseling for a variety of medical conditions, such as diabetes, cancer and high blood pressure. Some hospitals offer weight management programs combining nutrition, exercise and behavior modification.
Our Physician Referral service can recommend Banner Health physicians who specialize in nutrition. You can also call 1-800-230-CARE (2273), press option #1, Monday - Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., to speak to a physician referral representative.
Excercise Classes
Some Banner Health facilities offer various exercise or fitness classes. For a listing of classes, click here or call (602) 230-CARE (2273).
Weight Loss Surgery
Several Banner facilities offer bariatric or weight loss surgery. Bariatric surgery involves surgical procedures to reduce the size of the stomach and produce weight loss for the treatment of weight related medical problems. Within months after surgery, our patients usually experience dramatic improvement in their health conditions, including:
- Improvement or resolution of Diabetes type 2
- Decrease in blood pressure
- Lower or normalized cholesterol and triglyceride levels
- Improved breathing during sleep
- Reduction in joint pain and leg swelling
- Improvement or resolution of heart burn and gastric reflux
- Better bladder control.
