Bariatric Surgery at Banner Health

Example of digestive systemBeing overweight affects your whole life – your health, your emotional well-being, self-image and family life. Chances are, you’re visiting this website because you’ve been disappointed with diets, exercise, and maybe even weight-loss “miracle cures.” You’re looking for a real solution. Banner Bariatrics can help you change your life. Surgery is a part of that change, but you’ll start changing even before we wheel you into the operating room. We start with education and evaluation. Then after your surgery, we’ll support you as long as necessary for you to find your healthy weight and maintain it. The first step is getting in touch with us.

Before you make a commitment to bariatric surgery, read about it. Here’s some information you should know. No matter which surgery you and your doctor decide is best for you, you can be sure that all of us at Banner Bariatric Centers are here to help you through your weight loss journey. Our goals are your long-term physical health and emotional well-being. Healthy weight is a lifelong commitment, and we offer lifelong support.

There are three (3) basic ways surgery can change the digestive system:

  1. Restrictive surgery reduces the size of the stomach so patients feel full quickly and learn to eat less to feel satisfied.
  2. Malabsorptive surgery shortens the first part of the small intestine, which means your body will absorb fewer calories, and you will lose weight.
  3. Combined restrictive and malabsorptive surgery reduces both the size of the stomach and the length of the intestine.
