The first baby of 2009 is a boy! John Rylan Saiz was born just 28 seconds after midnight at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona.
The newborn weighs 7 pounds and 8 ounces.
Rylan, as his parents will call him, wasn't due for another two weeks, but his family is happy to see him arrive early.
"I was ecstatic, just whoosh! I didn't know what to do," said John Saiz, Rylan's father who got the call at work on New Year's Eve that his son was on his way into the world. "I'm running around all over the place, freaking out!"
Rylan is his first son and the first grandchild in the Saiz family, so the six-hour labor was extra special.
"It's amazing, like nothing I've ever seen before, pretty wild," said Saiz.
"We get to spoil him and send him back to Mommy and Daddy," said, Judy Saiz, Rylan's grandmother.
Judy proudly helped dress her grandson for his first picture.
Rylan's grandfather, John Saiz Sr. said, the Saiz family now have two reason's to celebrate January 1, "It's going to be a great year, it started off with a bang."
