Maternity and Childbirth
Banner Health recognizes the importance of having time away from work during your maternity and childbirth. There are leave programs that can protect your income and job while you are out if you are eligible. If you have any questions, please contact your Facility Benefit Representative.
Approved Leaves
- Short Term Disability (STD): If you are eligible, you may apply for coverage under the STD program either following the delivery or when your physician says that you can no longer work. The STD program does not pay for the first week, which must be supplemented by you using your PTO balance. When there are no complications with the delivery, you are eligible for up to an additional five (5) weeks paid STD at 60 percent of your base pay. Available PTO hours must be used to supplement your pay up to 100 percent of base.
- Medical Leave: If you are not eligible for STD, you may request a Medical Leave and use your available PTO. Refer to the Employee Handbook on the Employee Web site for more information about Medical Leave.
New for 2011: The coverage level for Short Term Disability will be reduced from 67 percent of base pay to 60 percent of base pay for all new claims beginning in 2011. Claims already in process will continue at the 67 percent level until the claim is closed.
Job Protection
- Family Medical Leave (FML): If you are eligible, FML provides up to 12 weeks of unpaid job-protection. FML runs concurrently with Short Term Disability (STD) and Medical Leaves.
- If you use six (6) weeks of FML in conjunction with STD, you may take up to another six (6) weeks off based on remaining available FML hours. Any available PTO hours must be used for FML. Department approval is required if you want to have intermittent FML.
- If both parents are Banner employees, the remaining FML time (after STD) is shared between parents. Ex: You can have four (4) weeks of FML and your spouse can have two (2) weeks of FML for combined six (6) weeks.
- Refer to the Employee Handbook on the Employee Web site for more information about Family Medical Leave.
