On April 7, 2011, I was brought by ambulance to the Emergency department at Banner Desert Medical Center I was in such extreme pain I hardly could talk. I had this pain several days and was at the end of being able to tolerate it any longer. . .
An angel named "Mary" came into my room and started talking to me. I have to tell you that, even before I was given any medicine, my pain started becoming bearable. She sat with me and explained her role as patient advocate. To have someone come in like that and be able to calm you down by just talking with you is unbelievably helpful.
She was very easy to talk with and she made me feel as if we had become best friends for life. She told me about the patient advocate program you have at Banner Desert and I want you to know how important this can be to your patients. Being reminded that someone cares is so strengthening. I already miss being able to see and talk with her. Please tell her how much I appreciated her efforts.
