First of all I would like to say thank you to Banner Health and my cardiothoracic surgeon who saved my life. Well here it goes:
Last Feb. 14, 2007 I was taken to the nearest Banner facility by my fiancé because I was having severe chest pains and at 23 years of age that is very unusual. When I got to the Banner facility (Banner Desert Medical Center) immediately they did an EKG and then took me to the triage area to see a doctor and then back to where they start all their tests on patients.
At this particular time, I knew I had a heart condition (from age 17) but didn't know the severity of it until I got treatment at the hospital. In the mean time, while I was waiting for test results to come back, the doctor in the triage area made me as comfortable as possible.
I got a bed in the main Emergency department where I then got assessed by another physician and my cardiothoracic surgeon.
My surgeon at that point came into my room in the Emergency department and gave me his name and what he was going to do. I was actually surprised that he was that compassionate and thorough on the whole operation. Well, Feb.19, 2007 was the day of my heart valve replacement and aneurysm repair. I was terrified but I knew I was in excellent hands.
It's not everyday a surgeon will explain a procedure to parents, and what do you know my cardiothoracic surgeon did just that. My father flew in from California to be there the day of my surgery. All in all, I just wanted to say thank you to the surgeon, ICU staff, and the nurses on the telemetry unit who all took excellent care of me.
Thank you again for all you did for me Dr. Maxwell. I appreciate it. If it wasn't for you, I probably wouldn't have made it to my 24th birthday.
