Carrie's Story |
On Sept. 30, 2010 I was taken to the emergency room (at Banner Desert Medical Center) via ambulance because of horrendous pain from a miscarriage. We had already been in the emergency room the night before where we found out the tragic news that our baby had no heartbeat.
I was just eight weeks pregnant but we had already fallen in love with our baby. We had been trying to get pregnant for a year and a half and had gone through infertility treatments.
During the second time in the emergency room, which was a longer stay, I was treated very sensitively by the staff who cared for me. Specifically two nurses (one was named Jill and I can't remember the other) were very sweet to me and sad over our loss. One nurse held my hand several times and told me how sorry she was for the loss of our baby. The other nurse told me she had a background in counseling and asked if I'd like information about support groups for baby loss.
It meant so much to us that they really respected our loss, even though I had only been eight weeks pregnant, and that they referred to it as our baby. I was touched by their warm, personal attention and real care for our situation.
