Banner Lassen announces leadership changes


Chief nursing officer steps into top role at hospital

SUSANVILLE, CA (Oct. 3, 2013) – Banner Lassen Medical Center announced today that Chief Nursing Officer Catherine Harshbarger will serve as Interim Chief Executive Officer to replace Bob Edwards who left the organization Friday. 

Harshbarger has served as the Chief Nursing Officer at Banner Lassen for over two years. She has more than 30 years of nursing experience, including 14 years in leadership roles. Prior to working in Susanville, Harshbarger was the Director of Patient Services at Pueblo West in Colorado. Harshbarger has a Master’s in Health Administration from the University of Phoenix.  She has a diverse clinical and leadership background serving in acute care, home health, case management, and physician clinics.

Edwards was named the CEO of Banner Lassen in 2011 after working at Ogallala Community Hospital, a Banner-operated facility, in Ogallala, Neb., for three years.

“I want to thank Bob for leading Banner Lassen Medical Center for the past two years, and for his service to the Susanville community,” said Jim Ferando, president of Banner Health/Western Region.

“We will begin a search for his permanent replacement immediately.”

Banner Lassen Medical Center in Susanville, Calif., originally opened in 1883 as Lassen County Hospital.
