McKee Medical Center Foundation receives $67,000 grant from Komen

LOVELAND, Colo. (April 26, 2013) – The McKee Medical Center Foundation has accepted a grant for $67,000 from the Denver Metropolitan Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® to provide money for breast cancer treatment for uninsured and under-insured women across Northern and Northeastern Colorado.

Brooke Vander Wal, Grants Writer with the McKee Medical Center Foundation, accepted the award April 24 at the Denver Metropolitan Susan G. Komen for the Cure Hope for the Cure event in Denver.

The treatment grant will ensure that under-insured and uninsured men and women will have access to breast cancer treatment at McKee Medical Center, North Colorado Medical Center, East Morgan County Hospital and Sterling Regional MedCenter.

The oncology social worker and nurse navigators at McKee Medical Center and North Colorado Medical Center will identify and qualify women for the treatment grant.  Qualified recipients will receive assistance with their life saving treatment including surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. This project will allow these women to receive the care they deserve and help them meet their needs as they struggle to recover from breast cancer and all the medical and personal ramifications of their disease.

Overall, the Komen Denver Affiliate is awarding $2.1 million to 21 organizations in Colorado this fiscal year.
