North Colorado Medical Center awards scholarships
GREELEY, Colo. (July 2, 2013) – The North Colorado Medical Center volunteers recently awarded $33,500 in scholarships to high school and college students who have made a valuable contribution to the community through their volunteer service at the hospital.
The department recognized 10 students with scholarships for their achievements in academics, their dedication to volunteer work, and their passion for pursing their future goals.
Scholarships were awarded as follows:
Dr. Phyllis Drennan Memorial Scholarship for $4,000 was presented to:
- University of Northern Colorado students Jennifer Wax of Boulder, Laura Parson of Littleton, Ana Caudillo of Greeley, and Sam MacDonald of Fort Collins
- Amber Gray and Kristen Yoshimura, both of Greeley.
The Jan Harimon Memorial Scholarship for $3,000 was awarded to:
- Gerica Helton of Greeley West High School
- Diego Buitron of Greeley Central High School
- Brian Dauner, a UNC student from Fort Collins.
The Bob Wolf Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Steve Marcantonio of Greeley West. Marcantonio already has been named a Daniels Fund Scholar for a full-ride scholarship. The volunteers honored him with a $500 award.
These individuals volunteered in a variety of assignments including information desk, emergency department, patient discharges, gift shop, lactation clinic, cardiac rehab, chaplaincy, and the CardioVascular Institute cath lab.
To be eligible for a NCMC volunteer scholarship, individuals must give at least 125 hours of volunteer service. Many of this year’s winners donated in excess of this requirement while excelling in school and extra-curricular activities. The applications were carefully reviewed and evaluated by a committee of dedicated volunteers. The awarding of scholarships is one of the most significant and meaningful contributions the volunteers make each year.
