Nursing leader joins team at Sterling Regional MedCenter
STERLING, CO (Feb. 3, 2014) – A nursing leader with more than 13 years of experience in hospital leadership has been named Chief Nursing Officer at Sterling Regional MedCenter.
Wade Tyrrell, RN, MSN, joined the hospital staff in January, moving to Sterling from Bartlett, Tenn. He served in a number of executive level roles for 13 years including six years with responsibilities for nursing and hospital operations. Tyrrell has worked in Texas, New Mexico and Tennessee in hospitals that range in size up to 250 beds.
He said the opportunity to work for Banner Health and Sterling Regional MedCenter was attractive because of the integration of hospital operations and physician clinics in one health care system.
“Plus they have regional operations with multiple facilities that work together,” he said. “I enjoy being part of a smaller community where there is a progressive provider like Banner Health. It offers the community the opportunity to get high-level, quality care without having to travel long distances.”
Tyrrell complimented the David Walsh Cancer Center at Sterling Regional MedCenter as well as the number of local and visiting specialists that serve the community.
Tyrrell received his master’s in nursing from Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, Texas, and his bachelor’s in nursing from South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D.
He is a single father to a grown daughter and a son who is a senior at Sterling High School. Tyrrell said his son, who has special needs, has worked hard to become a mainstream student. His son is active in Special Olympics and volunteering for animal welfare programs. Tyrrell also enjoys flying and riding motorcycle."
Tyrrell said he is looking forward to learning more in his new role. “I truly became a nurse so that I could make sure people are treated the way we want our families to be treated,” he said. “This facility recently became a Pathway to Excellence® designated facility. I know great things will happen here.”
