Audio:  “You’ve been with Banner for a number of years and held a number of positions. What were those positions?”

Text: Susanne VanRoekel, Recruiting Senior Manager

Audio:  “You know I’ve been here for 20 years. I started as an LPN back in 1989 then moved into an RN position, into an RN charge nurse position, then had an opportunity to do an assistant director position, moved into a service line coordinator. That led to a recruitment position, then recruitment program manager, and now recruitment senior manager.”

Hill Audio:  “Well you certainly have had an array or positions here at Banner. One in particular, your service line coordinator position, you were able to hire a number of bedside nurses. What was that like?”

VanRoekel Audio:  “You know we piloted that program in that position, and I was able to hire 132 RNs that first year. It was such a great satisfier for the unit to have one person available to do the interviewing and look for that right fit for our department for our patient care.”

Hill Audio:  “And what was it like for you to go from being a bedside nurse delivering the clinical excellence to now hiring for the clinical excellence?”

VanRoekel Audio:  “You know it’s always been a priority for me to make sure that our patients get the very best care here at Banner, and I was able to do that as a bedside nurse. And now we have the opportunity to look for the very best employees to continue to deliver that care here.”

Hill Audio:  “And throughout your journey here with Banner, what in your mind sets Banner apart from other organizations and, in particular, other health care organizations?”

VanRoekel Audio:  “You know it’s been such a huge benefit for me to have the opportunity to work at four different facilities and still live in the same location. My seniority stayed in place, my benefits stayed in tact. It was just a simple move, but so many more opportunities were opened to me.”

Hill Audio:  “Well, thank you so much for joining us today.”
