From local giving to star-studded events: Banner Health supports its communities

With an array of foundations supporting Banner Health hospitals and patient care programs across the seven western states, there is no shortage of giving options and opportunities for those seeking to give back and help foster healthier communities.
Through various fundraising events, capital campaigns, employee giving initiatives and other giving programs, foundations across the organization play a key role in extending the reach and results of patient care at Banner Health.
Black-tie galas, cocktail receptions and golf tournaments are just a few examples of fundraising events organized by Banner’s foundations.
Phoenix-based Banner Health Foundation, which supports Banner Health facilities throughout Arizona, hosts the highly successful Stars of the Season soiree benefiting Cardon Children’s Medical Center; Candlelight Capers, which supports academic medicine; and the ever-popular Banner Health Charity Pro-Am golf tournament benefiting Banner School-Based Health Centers and the Banner Children’s Health Mobile.
In the West Valley of metropolitan Phoenix, Sun Health Foundation is the core charitable giving partner for Banner Boswell Medical Center, Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center and Banner Sun Health Research Institute. The foundation proudly hosts the Healthy SUNsations Gala, an annual Holiday Boutique and Home Tour and a yearly golf tournament to help fund vital patient care, capital and research endeavors at Banner Health.
Beyond Arizona, foundations such as North Colorado Medical Center Foundation, McKee Foundation, The Greater Fairbanks Community Hospital Foundation and several more organize special events like the NCMC Foundation Gala and the McKee Community Classic Bike Tour.
Capital campaigns have had an invaluable impact on Banner’s ability to enhance health care facilities, invest in the medical technology necessary to deliver the highest quality care, and expand patient care programs and support services that truly make a difference in the lives of patients.
The Through the Eyes of a Child Campaign, organized and executed by Banner Health Foundation in support of Cardon Children’s Medical Center, was among the organization’s first capital campaigns. The foundation concluded a successful $20 million Cancer Has Met Its Match Campaign in 2012, benefiting Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center. A $22 million Hope Starts Here Campaign for the cancer center launched in 2014.
Banner Alzheimer’s Foundation in 2011 launched the $40 million BAI Breakthrough Campaign to help fund groundbreaking research studies and renowned patient care programs that have made Banner Alzheimer’s Institute an international resource in the arena of Alzheimer’s Care, treatment and prevention research.
Through its partnership with Banner Health, Sun Health remains committed to providing charitable support and volunteer resouces for the Banner Sun Health Research Institute and the Banner Boswell and Banner Del E. Webb medical centers. Since the formation of the partnership in 2008, Sun Health has contibuted more than $52 million to health and human service programs for Banner Health and a variety of othe rcommunity agencies serving the Northwest Valley.
Employee Giving Campaigns
Along with enlisting the support of those outside the organization, Banner Health prides itself on creating a culture of philanthropy. The Better Together Employee Giving Campaign in Arizona, a collaboration between Banner Health Foundation, Casa Grande Community Hospital Foundation and Sun Health Foundation, and a similar giving campaign operated by North Colorado Medical Center Foundation, are engaging employees at all levels of the organization in making charitable contributions to advance Banner’s nonprofit mission.
In 2013, Banner employees joined together to support the Support our Staff (SOS) fund to help those staff members who were impacted by the flooding in Colorado and Nebraska.
