Volunteer Program Update

Our volunteers play a vital role in supporting Banner Health’s mission of making a difference in people’s lives through excellent patient care.  Banner Thunderbird currently has volunteer service opportunities available in our Adult Volunteer Program.

Our Teen Volunteer Program is currently full. See below for information about getting on our waiting list.

At this time, we have a significant need for golf cart shuttle drivers, therapy dogs, information desk and nursing unit volunteers, and there are many other service opportunities available.

Here's how volunteers can help:

  • Emergency Department
  • Nursing Units
  • Gift Shop

Teen Volunteer Program

Our teen volunteer program is currently full and we are not accepting new teen volunteers at this time. If you are interested in being placed on our teen waiting list, please contact the Volunteer Resources Office.  The average wait time for teen volunteer placement is two to three months.
Teen volunteers make significant contributions of time and talent to the medical center. Because our goal is to have each teen have a positive learning experience as a volunteer, we have established the following criteria to our Teen Volunteer Program:

Year-round Volunteer Opportunities for Teens

  • Banner Thunderbird has a year-round teen volunteer program that is open to high school students who are at least 14 years of age and a freshman in high school.
  • Because of the popularity of our teen volunteer program, new volunteers are accepted only as openings are available.
  • Teen volunteers are asked to make a minimum commitment of at least 100 hours of volunteer service over a six month period of time. These hours are generally served in one shift of three to four hours a week.
  • All exceptions must be agreed upon in advance.

Summer Volunteer Opportunities for Teens

  • Teen volunteer applications are generally not accepted during the summer months.
  • Teens who wish to volunteer during the summer months and beyond should start their volunteer service no later than May
  • To ensure a start date of May 1, applications should be submitted no later than March 15.
  • All exceptions must be agreed upon in advance.

For more information about our Teen Volunteer Program or to apply, please call the Volunteer Resources Office at (602) 865-5760.
