FAQs About Volunteering

Do I Need to Have Certain Qualifications If I Want to Be a Volunteer?

We ask that volunteers are able to speak fluent English and comply with Banner Health policies and other necessary requirements—such as a background check, Tuberculosis (TB) test and orientation.

Banner volunteers should also possess the following skills:

  • A desire to help others
  • Ability to deliver exceptional customer service
  • Enthusiasm and joy to serve others
  • Dependability

How Are Placement Decisions Made?

The interview portion of the application process gives us the chance to get to know you, your availability, your interests and your skills. Then, we match these things with our open assignments. Again, we do our best to place you in an exciting and rewarding position.

What If I am Unable to Come in on My Day?

If you feel sick, please don't come into the hospital. If you know you will be out of town or have something that makes you unable to fulfill your assignment, we ask that you let us know as soon as possible.

May I Change Jobs Periodically?

If you like change, we will work with you to get you reassigned when you are ready for a new challenge.

Is There a Uniform?

Volunteers working inside the hospitals wear a uniform. Some assignments that are not in the hospitals do not require one.

Help make a difference in people's lives. Become a Banner Health volunteer! Here are some common questions about volunteering:

Where Can I Volunteer?

Volunteers for Banner Health have the opportunity to work at a Banner Health hospital, in our home care programs and at our behavioral health centers.

Within the hospital, volunteers can choose to work in patient care areas, with the public or with health care staff. We also host a number of community events and programs where our volunteers can lend their expertise.

When Can I Volunteer?

One of the best things about volunteering with Banner Health is the flexibility we offer in scheduling your volunteer time. We ask that volunteers donate at least 4 hours each week. Positions are available mornings, afternoons and evenings, 7 days a week. We'll be glad to work with you to develop a schedule that meets your needs.

How Do I Become a Volunteer?

To serve as a volunteer, select the facility where you would like to volunteer and contact the volunteer department. A representative will discuss the opportunities available to you and answer any questions you may have.
