Carole's Story

The reason I’m writing is because I was blessed by having my own Guardian Angel during my time in the ICU there at Del Webb.

Her name is Laura Hendrix and I have never witnessed a care giver with the kind of dedication, patience, tenacity and love that she generates.

We encountered a number of obstacles shortly after my arrival in the ICU. For one, I had no idea my heart had stopped on the operating table when they first tried to repair my badly fractured right arm. Laura was instrumental in getting me scheduled for a temporary pacemaker to help get me through the surgery. She successfully got permission to continue to work my case each time she came back on duty. She even rearranged her schedule and came in on a day that had been scheduled as a day off so she could continue to work with me and get me strong enough and ready for surgery.

In all I spent five days in the ICU and everyone I encountered was just awesome.

But Laura stood out above all the rest. It was as though I was her only patient and even when she wasn’t on shift I could still feel her presence there. She’s an unbelievable mentor who obviously has years of experience. I’m sure she’s a fantastic leader for the younger folks there to learn from and to follow. I feel blessed to have had Laura watch over me.
