Darren McCollem is the chief executive officer of Banner Gateway Medical Center in Gilbert, Banner Ironwood Medical Center in Queen Creek and Banner Goldfield Medical Center in Apache Junction. McCollem has more than two decades of increasing responsibilities with Banner Health, starting as a nurse at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix in 2003.
McCollem was chief operating officer of Gateway from September 2022 until February 2025, when he was named CEO of Gateway. He had served as clinical administrative senior director of oncology at Banner MD Anderson for three years and regional radiation oncology director for two years prior to that. He was director of nursing at Gateway from July 2013 to September 2017. He served in various nursing leadership roles at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix for nearly 10 years.
McCollem earned a bachelor’s in nursing from Worcester (Mass.) State College in 2003 and a master’s in business administration and nursing leadership and management from Grand Canyon University in 2010.
