We are proud to offer Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center patients robotic-assisted surgery as a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery.
da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System
We use the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System, which allows the surgeon to work with four interactive robotic arms along with a high-performance vision system to perform surgeries.
The surgeon's fingers grasp the master controls below the display, with hands and wrists naturally positioned relative to his or her eyes. The system seamlessly translates the surgeon's hand, wrist and finger movements into precise, real-time movements of surgical instruments inside the patient.
The robot's long, spindly arms can easily get into hard-to-reach areas and make dime-sized incisions. The robotic surgical system cannot be programmed, nor can it make decisions on its own.
Benefits of Robotic Surgery
With robotic surgery, patients who once faced several weeks in recovery following surgery can be back on their feet within days. Other benefits may include:
Reduced blood loss and need for transfusions
- Less pain and discomfort
- Less risk of infection
- Shorter hospital stay
- Faster recovery and return to normal daily activities
- Less scarring
