If you have committed to a healthy diet and exercise routine but have not been able to meet your weight loss goals, it may be time to consider surgical weight loss.
In addition to continuing your commitment to lifelong healthy living, the following are general guidelines for surgical candidates:
- A body mass index (BMI) of 35 is considered for surgery when it is accompanied by obesity-related illnesses like diabetes, hypertension or sleep apnea.
- BMIs of more than 40 are eligible for surgery based on weight alone.
- When other methods have not been successful and obesity is a threat to your health
- Patients with substance abuse or mental health disorders, women who may become pregnant and those with health conditions that make them a medical risk are not candidates for surgery
Before we can schedule your consultation with our bariatric surgeons, you must attend a FREE mandatory Information Session. These Information Sessions are for individuals (and their friends and families!) interested in learning more about the surgical weight loss options available at the Banner – University Medical Center Tucson Center for Bariatric Surgery. You will also learn about our program requirements and how to navigate the insurance approval process.
