Tai Chi for Relaxation – Thunderbird

Banner Thunderbird Medical Center now offers you the opportunity to participate in a special class designed to help you develop a personal Tai Chi practice. Cancer patients receiving treatment at Banner Thunderbird Cancer Center and their caregivers are invited to attend.

Tai Chi for Relaxation teaches a series of Qugong/Tai Chi movements that are gentle, flowing, meditative and self–healing. It can be done sitting or standing.

Benefits of Tai Chi practice:
Tai Chi is a wonderful complement to medical treatment and has been shown to:

  • decrease stress & anxiety
  • normalize blood pressure
  • improve balance and posture
  • promote relaxation and inner peace
  • increase immune function and promote healing

What should I wear/bring to class?

  • Loose, comfortable clothing that will allow you to move freely
  • Layered clothes to allow you to warm up or cool down
  • Comfortable shoes or sandals
  • Water to drink

What considerations might limit my participation in this class?
If your physician has identified any specific limitations for you (i.e. limitations of movement, exertion or otherwise) you will need to follow these limitations during the class.

Can I eat before class?
Yes, please have a light snack before class, but avoid a large meal just before class.
