To prepare for potential internal and external disasters, we have regular planning meetings and exercises within our facility.

Codes for overhead pages are posted throughout the building. Becoming familiar with these codes will help you to respond appropriately in the event of an emergency. These instructions are also available as an attachment to your ID badge.

Hospital Acquired Infections

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) research indicates health care-associated infections (HAIs) cause nearly 100,000 deaths each year in the U.S. alone.

  • HAIs rank in the top 10 causes of death in the U.S. and the economic cost is nearly $5 billion per year.
  • Every year in the U.S., 1.7 million patients acquire health care-associated infections while receiving health care.
  • HAI’s cause more deaths than diabetes or Alzheimer’s disease, and half of all treatment complications in acute care hospitals. Most HAIs are preventable!

Platte County Memorial Hospital uses resources to provide interpretation for our patients who have communication barriers such as limited English proficiency or deafness.

Video Remote Interpretation (VRI):  Interpreters available on a computer screen equipped with a camera and microphone with technology similar to Skype. VRI provides interpreters for the following languages: American Sign Language, Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese and Somali.

To respect confidentiality and to ensure that the patient receives accurate interpretation, it is Banner’s policy that a patient’s family or friends not be used to interpret.

To access interpretation services for a patient, please inform the patient's nurse.

Electronic Medical Record: Banner Health has one of the most advanced and fully integrated electronic medical record systems in the country. Banner physicians have used this technology to significantly lower the mortality rate of sepsis in intensive care patients and to reduce the number of CT scans ordered for patients.

Positive Patient Identification: Platte County Memorial Hospital uses a Positive Patient Identification process to administer medications. Physician orders are entered into the patient’s electronic medical record. The medication order is validated by a staff pharmacist. The nurse at the bedside verifies the patient’s name and date of birth, then uses a bar code scanner to scan the label on the medication and the label on the coded wrist. This process is designed to ensure the right patient receives the right medication in the right amount at the right time.

PeriBirth: Platte County Memorial Hospital uses an intelligent OB program helps reduce complications during childbirth, ensuring safe delivery for the more than 30,000 babies born at Banner facilities each year.

Medical Imaging: In 2009, our Medical Imaging department moved to a new addition of the hospital. We recently updated our mammogram technologies to a full field digital machine in 2011.

Our current modalities available are:

  • Breast Imaging/Digital Mammography
  • Computed Tomography (CT) Scan including CT angiograms
  • Diagnostic Radiography Imaging (X-ray)

Ultrasound including Echocardiograms and Vascular Studies

Mobile services for MRI and Nuclear Medicine are available weekly:

  • Mondays and Tuesdays: MRI
  • Thursdays: Nuclear Medicine
