Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix performed Arizona's first liver transplant in 1983. The Transplant Institute has continued to provide care to more than 500 transplant patients with advanced liver disease, including liver cancer. In 2016, we were one of the fastest growing liver transplant programs in the United States.

The Advanced Liver Disease and Liver Transplant Center provides individual and expert care to each patient with liver disease. Our team of physicians offers not only transplantation services, but also specialty management of advanced liver disease.

Patients come to the Center with a variety of liver diseases. Thus, our team of experts provides comprehensive and individualized education based on your needs. In addition, the American Liver Foundation is a great resource for disease information and support.
In most cases of liver disease, transplants are not needed. However, if you or your loved one is in need of a liver transplant, the first step is to attend an education class about organ transplantation. This class is offered in English and Spanish. During class, you will receive a binder containing detailed information about the transplant process, including:
We encourage patients to be open and honest and to ask any and all questions in order to get the information they need to make an informed decision. Patients can also talk with other patients who have been through a transplant procedure to gain firsthand insights into the transplantation process in general.
