Complete Care & Management of Type 1 Diabetes

You can count on us at Banner Health to help you manage your type 1 diabetes and to treat any diabetes-related complications that may happen. We offer diabetes self-management classes, support groups, wound care and more.

What Is Type 1 Diabetes?

When the pancreas does not create insulin — the hormone your cells need to convert sugar (glucose) into energy — type 1 diabetes, or diabetes mellitus, develops.

Type 1 diabetes usually develops in children and young adults, and it often progresses quickly. If your child has type 1 diabetes, we can help with specialized pediatric diabetes care.

What Treatment Options Are Available for Type 1 Diabetes?

If you or your child has type 1 diabetes, you need daily injections of insulin to keep blood sugar levels within normal ranges. You will also need to monitor your blood sugar and ketone levels several times a day.

To manage type 1 diabetes, it’s important to stay active, maintain a healthy weight and follow healthy eating guidelines for managing diabetes.

Living with diabetes can also cause stress and make you feel a lot of different emotions. Stress and depression can actually affect your blood sugar levels. If you have trouble dealing with diabetes, tell your doctor, nurse or diabetes educator at Banner Health. We can refer you to other health care providers or programs to help.
