Treatment for Lung Cancer

Smoking is the primary cause of lung cancer, but not the only cause. It’s important to understand your risk factors – past and present – to work toward a future without lung cancer.

At Banner Health, our primary goal is lung cancer prevention. We provide education on healthy activities and ways to lower your risk. When prevention isn’t possible, we also diagnose lung cancer and its stage (location of the cancer and if it has spread) and offer the right treatment options for your condition.

Your Partners in Health

If you have lung cancer, or if you are at high risk, we’re here to identify and treat it.

The most successful way to prevent lung cancer is simple: don’t smoke. Leading a healthy lifestyle can also help reduce your risk.

Other factors that can increase your risk of lung cancer:

  • Family history
  • Radiation therapy to your chest
  • Exposure to asbestos or other harmful chemicals
  • Radon exposure

Lung cancer doesn’t always cause symptoms in its earliest stages. If it does, you may notice one or more warning signs, such as:

  • Chest pain
  • Coughing up blood or rust-colored mucus
  • Enlarged lymph nodes in your neck
  • Persistent cough
  • Trouble breathing, wheezing
  • Yellowing of skin and eyes (jaundice)

If you’re at higher risk of lung cancer, talk to your doctor about screenings that may help detect it before you see symptoms.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) as an annual lung cancer screening for adults ages 55 to 80 years who have a 30 pack-year smoking history and still smoke or quit in the past 15 years.

If you’re diagnosed with lung cancer, you can count on us for complete treatment for your condition and your symptoms. We’ll walk with you and your family every step of the way and give you the information and support you need.
