Brain and Body Donation Program

Study Goals: This study is designed to be able to compare the brain function of living adults with tissue that they donate when they pass away.

What’s Involved: Participants will be seen in person once per year to complete assessments of neurological and motor function, sense of smell, memory and thinking, sleep and general medical health. When participants pass away, a transport service will bring them to the Institute for autopsy. The tissues that they donate will be used to provide a diagnostic autopsy report and will be stored for future use by researchers locally and throughout the world to study aging, cancer, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s (as well as related conditions).

Eligible patients will:

  • Have a diagnosis of Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia with Lewy bodies or REM sleep behavior disorder
  • Reside (at least 6 months per year) in Maricopa County
  • Be willing to participate in annual assessments at the Institute
