Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center Advanced Practice Surgical Oncology Fellowship

The Banner MD Anderson Advanced Practice Surgical Oncology Fellowship is a 13-month post-graduate program providing high level surgical training and specialty specific knowledge in surgical oncology and its subspecialties. Upon successful completion of the program, the advanced practice provider (APP) fellow will be well trained to function at the top of their scope of practice.

This position affords the APP fellow a structured environment where they may develop a deep understanding of multidisciplinary oncologic care at a high volume cancer care center. Training will include opportunities to advance clinical skills and knowledge in three core areas: surgical oncology, perioperative management and comprehensive oncologic care. 

Program Objectives

This fellow is a member of a care team that provides and coordinates medical, surgical, and specialty care to patients of Banner MD Anderson, as permitted by their state license and training. Assignments will take fellows across multiple Banner campuses, including Banner Gateway Medical Center, Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix, Banner Del Webb Medical Center and Banner Boswell Medical Center. This gives the fellow an opportunity to serve the diverse patient population in the Phoenix area and Arizona at-large.

The fellow will assist the surgical oncology team by performing patient assessments, obtaining a comprehensive medical history, interpreting the results of diagnostic tests procedures, developing treatment plans and conducting follow-up and surveillance visits, alongside seeing new consults These duties will be performed under direct supervision and as allowed by their state license.

Upon completion of the fellowship, the fellow will be awarded a certificate by Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Department of Surgical Oncology. 

Application Criteria

The application criteria for this fellowship include:

  • Graduate from Accredited NP/PA training Program
  • Pass appropriate certification examination
  • AZ Licensure/AZ Licensure-Eligible
  • Active BLS & ACLS Certifications
  • Eligible for DEA number
  • Personal Statement: one-page typed statement on why you are interested in postgraduate surgical training program
  • 2 Professional Letters of Recommendations (including one from your graduate program director if you graduated within the last 2 years)
  • Curriculum Vitae/Resume
  • Official Transcripts from Graduate Program
  • Physician Assistants will require official NCCPA Exam scores
  • Nurse Practitioners must submit Adult Gerontological Acute Care NP Certification and Registered Nurse First Assist Certification
