PERFORMANCE SCIENTIST

Matt Hartshorne serves as Performance Scientist at the Banner Sports Medicine High Performance Center, where he empowers athletes through comprehensive performance testing and evaluation. He works directly with athletes to identify strengths, set goals, and pinpoint areas for development and optimization. Through periodic evaluations and collaboration with the integrated team, Hartshorne adjusts athlete game plans to maximize outcomes throughout their time at the Center.

Before joining the High Performance Center, Hartshorne worked with military personnel, elite athletes, and everyday individuals in rehabilitation and performance enhancement. His work emphasizes systematic and serial testing to track progress across the rehabilitation spectrum and establish normative databases for comparison and monitoring. He has published research and presented at professional conferences on injury risk screening, new clinical technologies, wearable sensors, and innovative rehabilitation technologies.

With over a decade of experience as a physical therapist and performance enhancement coach, Hartshorne is currently pursuing a PhD in human movement science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, specializing in motion capture technology, biomechanical assessments, and injury risk reduction strategies. He earned his Bachelor of Science in human nutrition, foods, and exercise from Virginia Tech and his Doctor of Physical Therapy from Duke University, with his PhD expected in 2026. Hartshorne is a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopedic physical therapy and holds the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) credential through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
