Banner Del E. Webb Improves Trauma Capabilities

January 22, 2016

SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. – Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center has received a Level III Trauma Center Provisional Designation by the Arizona Department of Health Services Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma System.

Previously a Level IV Trauma Center, this new designation recognizes the medical center’s investments in enhanced advanced emergency department services, 24/7 trauma surgery availability, additional specialized equipment and process improvements throughout the facility designed to facilitate faster and better care to emergency patients.

“Our medical center strives to grow and develop to meet the increasing needs of our surrounding communities,” said Chief Medical Officer J. Scott Anderson, MD. “Enhancing our trauma and emergency services allows us to deliver a higher level of care in a more timely manner to our most acutely injured patients while enabling them to receive that care closer to their homes and families."

Banner Health has committed to taking a leadership role by making the necessary investments to create trauma centers of varying levels at our Valley hospitals. As a Level III Trauma Center, Banner Del E. Webb will be able to treat more orthopedic, pelvic and abdominal injuries common in more serious car accidents and falls. The addition of two reconstruction plastic surgeons will allow the hospital to care for burn victims and injuries such as dog bites to the face, which is new for the hospital.

“This designation as a Level III is one example of the focused work we are doing to continually enhance the level of emergency care we provide,” Anderson said.

The nonprofit facility will begin operating as a Level III Trauma Center on Feb. 8.
