PHOENIX - As a health institution, patient safety is paramount to us and we certainly understand the gravity of the situation occurring in Colorado. However, as a matter of policy we are unable to comment on employee matters. That said, we understand this situation may cause anxiety among some of our former patients, and we apologize for that.
Rocky Allen was only employed with us for a six-week period between May 19 and July 2, 2014. If you were a surgery patient at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center during this time, we are in the process of establishing free testing for Hepatitis B & C and HIV. Please call (602) 865-5555 for more information.
An open letter to our affected patients from Banner Thunderbird Medical Center CEO Deb Krmpotic:
As you know, we are offering free testing for Hepatitis B & C and HIV for patients who had inpatient surgery at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center between May 19 and July 2, 2014.
We are offering this testing because we are concerned that a former employee at Banner Thunderbird during this time period may have engaged in practices that could put them at risk for these viruses. While we believe the risk is low to surgery patients treated during this time period, we are offering this free testing out of an abundance of caution.
I know this information will understandably cause anxiety for many people, and I apologize for that. Speaking for the Banner Thunderbird team of health professionals, this situation has saddened us and we are determined to do all we can to help.
In the meantime, if you or a loved one received surgery at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center during this time period, I urge you to call (602) 865-5555 to receive more information about how you can access our free testing.
