Guernsey ambulance becomes part of Banner Health

January 26, 2017

GUERNSEY, Wyo. – Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland and Banner Health have acquired Guernsey Ambulance Service. Effective Jan. 10, they began providing emergency services in that community.

Guernsey Ambulance Service, operated by the Town of Guernsey, has relied solely on volunteers for emergency response. However, the number of volunteers has decreased and fewer people are available to leave their full-time professions to respond to emergencies.

Partnering with the Guernsey Town Council, operations of the ambulance services transitioned successfully to Platte County EMS. The Guernsey volunteers have been hired by Banner to help continued operations. In addition, Banner Health will lease two ambulances from the Town of Guernsey.

According to Ann Harris, Emergency department director and interim ambulance services manager at PCMH, the hospital will offer additional training for the newly hired employees and assume maintenance for the vehicles from the Town of Guernsey.

“We are excited about this opportunity,” Harris said.

As always, in an emergency please call 9-1-1. People who have non-emergent questions about the service may call the ambulance office at (307) 322-6418, or the hospital at (307) 322-3636.

The acquisition represents continued growth for Platte County EMS. The department was created in April 2015 when the hospital acquired Eastern Wyoming Ambulance Service in Wheatland. This year the hospital began working with the Town of Chugwater for emergency medical services.

As Platte County EMS continues to grow, the department will strive to train additional personnel in each community, including more emergency responders and emergency medical technicians. Harris said she hopes to introduce a schedule for formal training courses available in both communities in mid-2017.
