TUCSON, Ariz. (April 14, 2026) – Banner Children’s at Diamond Children’s Medical Center transformed an ordinary Saturday into an unforgettable evening with its annual prom for teen patients who are unable to attend their school celebrations.
This year’s “Around the World” theme brought global destinations to life at Casino del Sol Stadium, featuring immersive décor, music, interactive experiences and international-inspired cuisine. Patients spent the evening dancing alongside friends, family members and care team staff. Gadabout Salon Spas provided glam sessions for those in attendance.
The April 11 event was made possible through a grant from the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation.
Dunkin’ added to the celebration with its signature beverages and sweet treats, along with a special appearance by its mascot, Sprinkles. The prom is part of a larger national effort to bring joy to children facing serious health challenges.
The event plays an important role in supporting the emotional well-being of patients during treatment, offering a sense of normalcy and connection during a difficult time.
“This night is about creating moments of joy and connection for our patients,” said Alison Flynn Gaffney, chief executive officer of Banner – University Medicine Tucson. “We’re proud to provide experiences like this that support the whole person.”
Leaders from the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation emphasized the importance of creating meaningful experiences for young patients.
“Every teen deserves the opportunity to celebrate milestones like prom. For teens facing health challenges, that experience can often be out of reach, which is why the Dunkin’ Prom program is so impactful,” said Shannon Durkin, co-chair of Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation’s west region. “It creates a space where they can feel celebrated, connect with friends and enjoy a night that allows them to simply be teens. We’re proud to partner with Banner Health for the seventh year to support such a meaningful experience.”
In 2026, 14 Dunkin’ Prom events are scheduled across the country as part of the foundation’s mission to bring joy to children battling illness or hunger.
