Banner Health CEO named to Modern Healthcare's '100 Most Influential People'

Peter Fine named to prestigious list for ninth time

PHOENIX (Dec. 20, 2021) – Modern Healthcare magazine has released its 2021 list of '100 Most Influential People,' naming Banner Health CEO Peter Fine to the list for a ninth year.

This prestigious recognition program acknowledges and honors individuals who are deemed by their peers and the senior editors of Modern Healthcare to be the most influential individuals in the industry, in terms of leadership and impact.

"I am honored to receive this recognition after another extraordinary year in our industry when the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to challenge us all," said Fine. "However, I am especially proud of the real stars — Banner’s clinicians, support staff and leadership team who have worked tirelessly to sustain the highest possible standards for our patients’ care and safety. They are the reason we are represented among the best of the health care industry."

During his 21 years as CEO, Fine has led Banner’s impressive growth to become one of the nation’s largest secular nonprofit health care organizations – with more than 52,000 employees – operating 30 hospitals and other services in six states across the Southwest. He has played a crucial role in leading Banner’s COVID-19 response through the expansion of vaccine distribution and test collection sites, the contracting of additional health care workers to meet local surge demands, the development of Banner’s “Safe Place for Care” initiative putting patient safety at the forefront, and the push for Banner to become one of the first health systems to require vaccination as a condition of employment. Additionally, Fine’s decisive financial management enabled Banner to maintain operating capacity — without layoffs or eliminating positions — during COVID surges and reactivation of elective business as caseloads subsided.

In addition to his leadership of the COVID-19 response, Fine continues to strategically position Banner for the future, elevating it as an integrated health system with enhanced scope, scale, agility and customer focus. He continues to shape a compelling vision focused on excelling in quality of care, innovation, operational performance, customer service, financial metrics and employee engagement.

Fine ranks No. 65 among the 2021 list of '100 Most Influential People.' The complete ranking is a main feature in this week’s issue of Modern Healthcare magazine, and a feature article and profiles of the winners are available at https://www.modernhealthcare.com/awards/100-most-influential-people-healthcare-2021
