Banner Health teams up with HealthCorps for free community wellness event

“Spring into Health” featured health screenings and activities for all ages at Uptown Farmers Market

PHOENIX (April 11, 2025) – As a nonprofit health system, Banner Health invests every dollar back into the communities it serves. Banner joined HealthCorps, an organization dedicated to empowering teens and communities to take charge of their health, to deliver accessible screenings and health education at the Uptown Farmers Market during “Spring into Health”. The event provided free mammograms, skin cancer education, and community health resources; further removing barriers to care and bringing Banner’s commitment to prevention-focused health care to life.

"Preventive care saves lives, but only when people can access it,” said Amy Perry, Banner Health president and chief executive officer, who attended the event. “When we meet people where they are – whether that's at a farmers market or in their neighborhood – we create opportunities for healthier futures. I'm proud to play a role in making wellness accessible and approachable, for all ages."

Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center’s BIG Pink Bus provided mammogram screenings, at no cost thanks to support from the Larry Fitzgerald Foundation. The BIG Pink Bus is life-changing for women who might want or need a mammogram, but don’t have the ability to get to an imaging site themselves, the most convenient option to stay on top of their screenings. Nearly 1,000 women were screened by the BIG Pink Bus in 2025, including 18% first-time screeners.

In addition, Banner MD Anderson’s T.W. Lewis Melanoma Center of Excellence Community Vehicle shared melanoma and skin cancer education materials, connecting the community to valuable sun-safety resources.

Booths hosted by other local community organizations provided other health and wellness activities and giveaways. Attendees also had the opportunity to engage with HealthCorps President and CEO Amy Braun.
