Banner Health celebrates arrival of New Year's babies born just after midnight

Babies born at Banner Thunderbird, Banner Ocotillo among first of new year

GLENDALE, Ariz. (Jan. 1, 2026) - A Peoria family is celebrating the new year with a new life — a baby girl who was delivered shortly after midnight on Thursday.

Kyla Burns gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Averi Ann Burns, at 12:26 a.m. at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale. She was born weighing 8 pounds, 2 ounces and 19 inches long.

"It's a blessing that we’re able to expand our family with baby Averi," Kyla Burns said.

First-time parents Kyla and Jake Burns said they are looking forward to cherishing countless special moments to come with Averi, their first child.

Also among the first of the year were babies born in Chandler, Tucson and Casper, Wyoming.

At Banner Ocotillo Medical Center in Chandler, baby boy Santiago Aguilar, 6 pounds, 8 ounces, and 18 inches long, came into the world at 12:35 a.m. Karina Hildago Garcia and Alejandro Aguilar are also first-time parents.

In Southern Arizona, a baby was born at 12:56 a.m. at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson. And at Banner Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, a baby was born at 1:20 a.m. The first at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa was born at 6:29 a.m.
