King and Queen crowned for prom at Diamond Children's in Tucson

Annual event brings prom to seriously ill teenagers at Diamond Childrens at Banner - University Medical Center Tucson

Two teenagers have been crowned the 2026 Banner Children's Diamond Children’s “Prom King and Queen.”

Brianna Bañuelos and Julio Rodriguez were crowned during the Feb. 28 Arizona men’s basketball game at McKale Center at Alkeme Arena.

The pair will take part in the special Dunkin’ Prom night on April 11. The event is held annually for teen patients facing serious illness who can’t attend their school prom, complete with a chance to dress up, dance and spend time with friends.

Supported by the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation, the annual prom gives the teen patients the chance to enjoy a beloved high school tradition. This year’s event includes a virtual trip around the world and will be held at Casino Del Sol Stadium (Arizona Stadium).

Brianna is a thoughtful young woman who loves her family deeply. After being diagnosed with leukemia shortly after her 14th birthday and missing her freshman year of high school due to treatment, Brianna continues to face each day with resilience and positivity.

Julio is brave, smart and passionate about baseball. Currently undergoing treatment for neuroblastoma, Julio, also 14, continues his education online, excels in math, and lives by the motto “striking out cancer.”
