TUCSON, Ariz. (Jan. 29, 2025) – Banner – University Medical Center Tucson's spine program has achieved The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Spine Surgery, making it the only program in Arizona to earn this prestigious recognition.
The Gold Seal signifies Banner Health’s commitment to safe, high-quality patient care. To earn this certification, the spine program underwent an onsite visit from The Joint Commission and was evaluated on their compliance to The Joint Commission’s rigorous standards including safety protocols, patient optimization, and post-operative care. The standards are developed in consultation with orthopedic and neurosurgery spine experts and are based on the latest research in spine surgery.
Banner – University Medicine Tucson’s expert providers are leaders in spine surgery, providing the most advanced practices in the diagnosis and care of spinal diseases and deformities. The spine program provides seamless collaboration among health care providers across the entire care process, from pre-surgical consultation to post-operative follow-ups. Banner’s spine program is the first in Arizona to be recognized for implementing evidence-based care guidelines and collecting data on key performance metrics such as infection rates and patient outcomes.
“This prestigious recognition underscores our commitment to providing safe, effective, and high-quality care. We are proud to have the first Joint Commission-certified spine program in Arizona,” said Alison Flynn Gaffney, chief executive officer of Banner – University Medical Center Tucson and South hospitals. “I would like to thank our incredible team of nurses, allied health professionals, ancillary staff, and providers who made this achievement possible.
