The pricing information on this site primarily applies to patients who do not have insurance and who will relate to the self-pay discounted prices that are part of Banner’s financial assistance program. The program is designed to provide uninsured patients rates similar to those who have insurance.

Emergency departments are required by federal law to perform a medical screening exam on every patient that comes to us for care. Often the medical screening exam is needed to find whether the patient is having an “emergency condition.” For example a patient arriving in the Emergency department with a severe headache may simply have a headache or may be having a stroke. The screening exam to find what the condition is can be complex, costly and time consuming. The charges billed for that patient are not based on what the condition ultimately was. Instead, the charges are based on what exams were performed in the process of finding the medical condition.
Emergency department patients are charged different levels based on the severity of the visit from Level 1 to Level 5. A description of each level is included in the chart.
The levels do not include fees charged by physicians working in the hospital, such as surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, hospitalists and anesthesiologists.
In most instances, Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurers pay an amount that is substantially less than the price. Patients with insurance are encouraged to contact their insurance carrier to determine the specific amount that must be paid based on insurance plan coverage. Reduced self-pay package pricing is also available for certain services. Prompt pay discounts may also be available.
