Dr. Reiman is the CEO of Banner Research and also the executive director of the Banner Alzheimer’s Institute. He serves as clinical director of the Neurogenomics Division at the Translational Genomics Research Institute, professor and associate head of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona, and director of the Arizona Alzheimer’s Consortium, the nation’s leading model of statewide collaboration in Alzheimer’s disease research.
Dr. Reiman is the author of more than 175 research publications and the principal investigator of National Institutes of Health research grants. Dr. Reiman is internationally recognized for his contributions to brain imaging research, the behavioral neurosciences, and the presymptomatic study of Alzheimer’s disease. He has developed a strategy to find demonstrably effective treatments to prevent Alzheimer’s disease as quickly as possible.
COO, Banner Research
Cynthia Guinn, MA, is the chief operating officer for Banner Research. In her role, she oversees, coordinates, and facilitates the operation of all scientific, clinical and administrative programs within Research. She is responsible for the organization’s efficiency, responsiveness, scientific and clinical productivity, and compliance with applicable standards for the conduct of research.
Cynthia previously served as executive director of Oregon Research Institute for seventeen years where she oversaw a research program that was funded by more than $20 million per year in competitive research grants and included hundreds of employees. During her tenure, she assembled an outstanding management team, created highly innovative and technologically advanced business solutions, developed the operational procedures needed to ensure the program’s financial and regulatory accountability, and lead an organization that regularly made the Top 5 Businesses and Nonprofits to Work for in Oregon List, making No 1 in 2011.
Director, Banner Alzheimer's Institute
Dr. Pierre Tariot, director of Banner Alzheimer’s Institute, is board-certified in internal medicine and geriatric psychiatry.
He received intensive training in developing new treatments for Alzheimer's disease at the National Institutes of Health. He went on to spend 20 years as a professor at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York, where he directed a program dedicated to the care and study of those with Alzheimer's.
In 2006, he joined Dr. Eric Reiman to launch Banner Alzheimer's Institute and serve as a research professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine.
He is a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America, distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and member of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology. He also is a past chair of the Behavioral Pathology Committee of the National Institute on Aging's Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer's Disease.
Dr. Tariot has investigated and lectured extensively on multiple aspects of diagnosis and therapy for dementia and Alzheimer's as well as recognition and management of behavioral disturbances in dementia.
He has devoted his career to helping patients and families cope with the effects of dementia and is a recognized leader in the development of new Alzheimer's treatments. He has published hundreds of scientific articles, is a widely sought-after speaker and consultant, and has won numerous awards for his service and research.
Operations Director, Banner Alzheimer's Institute
Darin Anderson, MBA, MHSA, is the operations director for the Banner Alzheimer’s Institute, joining Banner Health in June 1999.
Since that time he has served in a variety of roles including senior planning director and oncology service line administrator for Banner's Arizona region. His most recent accomplishment before joining the BAI team was opening Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center. Anderson served as the project manager for the development of the cancer center and was extensively involved in its planning, design and operational set up.
In his current role his responsibilities include oversight of all operations, financial stewardship of the organization, strategic planning and business development.
Education & Outreach Director, Banner Research
Brian is responsible for the administration and implementation of education at Banner Research ranging from the high school level to post-doctoral fellows. The award winning Banner Research Summer Internship Program highlights educational excellence at Banner Research.
Brian is also responsible for Banner Research outreach activities which include clinical trial diversity, memory screenings and speakers bureau.
Brian serves as an advisor for career and technical education for two local Phoenix school districts. Brian also serves on the leadership council for the Alzheimer's Association and on the board of The Arizona Foundation for Eye Health.
