Pregnancy presents a number of physical and emotional tests for moms-to-be. It’s no surprise, then, that pregnancy is a time for medical tests, too. You’ll have tests during your pregnancy to check your health and your baby’s health. After your baby is born, he or she will have tests, too. At Banner Health, we provide all of the tests you and your baby will need.
Which Tests Will I Need While I’m Pregnant?
If your obstetric (OB) provider is concerned about a possible problem or if your pregnancy is high-risk, you may need certain tests, including:
- Amniotic fluid index
- Biophysical profile
- Cerclage removal
- Doppler studies
- Intravenous infusion
- Lab draws
- Non-stress test
- Obstetrical ultrasound
- Steroid injection
Your OB provider or another specialist will talk with you about test results and any next steps.
Which Tests Will My Newborn Need?
After your baby is born, we perform a hearing test and pulse oximetry screening. This test is painless and measures oxygen in your baby’s blood. It also checks for a condition called critical congenital heart disease. We measure oxygen saturation in the baby’s right hand and one foot in the first hours of life.
Babies who fail pulse oximetry screenings may need an echocardiogram, or cardiac ultrasound, to check the baby’s heart structure and function.
